Records: El Paso Locomotive (0-4-0, 0 points); Monterey Bay F.C. (1-3-0, 3 points)
Previous Matches: Locomotive FC visited San Diego to take on Loyal SC on Sunday, April 3. After conceding first in the 21st minute of the match, El Paso equalized five minutes later, but it was as close to a result as the side would get. With goals by San Diego in the 40th and 66th minutes, Locomotive FC found itself down 3-1. Despite scoring late to make things interesting, the match ended 3-2 in favor of San Diego.
Monterey Bay F.C. took a trip up North to Sacramento to take on Republic FC. After the Union missed a chance at the breakthrough goal by mere inches in the 76th minute, Sacramento was awarded two penalties in the following 10 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. Chase Boone scored in the first minute of added time to give the Union new life late in the match, but another chance for Monterey Bay in the final few seconds missed to the left of the far post and the hosts captured all three points on the night.
Connections: Locomotive FC forward Christiano François has several connections to the Union. In 2021, François was teammates with Monterey Bay F.C. forward Chris Cortez at Miami FC when Cortez joined the club ahead of its run in the USL Championship Playoffs last season. The season before in 2020, François played at Reno 1868 with Monterey Bay midfielder Sam Gleadle. Lastly, François and Union defender and captain Hugh Roberts spent the 2018 season as teammates at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
Notes: While it will be Monterey Bay's first trip to Texas in club history, it will also be the Union's fifth of seven away matches to start the regular season. Monterey Bay F.C. will look to earn its second victory of the inaugural campaign, while El Paso searches for its first result in 2022. Monterey Bay F.C. is 1-3-0 all-time on the road, while Locomotive FC is 28-5-10 all-time as hosts.
