Match Preview: Red Bulls Aim for First-Ever CCL Semis Appearance

New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls and Club Tijuana clash in the second leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quartefinals on Tuesday night at Red Bull Arena. Leg two is slated to kickoff at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on Univision Deportes, streamed on go90.com and can be heard on Red Bulls Radio on TuneIN.
New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 7 p.m. ET with triHonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley.
With a 2-0 aggregate lead, the New York Red Bulls aim to advance to their first ever Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Semifinal series. Since the CONCACAF Champions League Era began in 2008, just seven MLS squads have advanced to the semifinal round. Of those seven MLS semifinalists, only two have advanced to the CCL finals.
New York's road win over Club Tijuana was not only impressive for the club but for MLS as well. The Red Bulls broke a 21-game winless streak (0-17-4) on the road for MLS teams against Mexican clubs since 2011. New York became just the third team in MLS history to win in Mexico in 49 matches (3-38-8). It was the first time in MLS history that an MLS team recorded two goals against a Mexican club in Mexico during the CCL knockout round.
Since the beginning of 2018, New York is unbeaten across all competitions through the first four matches. The Red Bulls have outscored their opponents, 10-1 over the last five games. New York has not trailed through the first 360 minutes of this year.
Red Bull veterans Luis Robles and Bradley Wright-Phillips have continued to show why they are the best at their craft despite both players playing at the age of 33 (BWP turning 33 on March 12). Wright-Phillips has rattled off at least one point through the first four games (4G, 2A) of 2018, including a goal in three straight-matches. On the defensive side, Robles has allowed just one goal in four matches, including three consecutive clean sheets.
New York returns to MLS play on Saturday as they travel to Real Salt Lake for their second MLS regular-season match of 2018. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast regionally on MSG2.
