Oakland Roots head into the final showdown with NorCal rivals Sacramento Republic. The two clubs are tight in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot and have played to a draw in the previous three meetings between each other. The rivalry got started with fireworks as Oakland Roots and Sacramento entertained to a 3-3 draw on June 2nd. The following two meetings, one in Sacramento and one in the East Bay were both scoreless 0-0 draws. The winner will take the season series and own the tiebreaker for the final playoff spot.

Oakland Roots are coming off a draw vs Las Vegas Lights. Roots were up a goal and up a player before conceding a late equalizer at home to drop two points. Lindo Mfeka provided his team leading fourth assist of the season when Quincy Amarikwa scored. This was following an away game vs Orange County in which Oakland conceded in the 90th minute to lose 2-1. Roots sit in sixth place behind Sacramento on 31 points.
