Josh Yaro Named to USL Championship Team of the Week
October 5, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
San Diego Loyal News Release
San Diego, Calif. - Defender Josh Yaro was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week after a standout performance that included scoring a goal in a Week 24 SD Loyal 3-0 win against LA Galaxy II on Oct. 2.
Yaro continues to be a strongpoint in SD Loyal's back line as he helped his team to its fourth shutout of the season. His defensive performance against LA Galaxy II showed resilience from the backline and Yaro's leadership in the center of the line. But that's not all the Kumasi, Ghana native showed he could do.
Yaro also scored his second goal with SD Loyal while completing 62 of 67 passes and winning 3 of 4 duels. Yaro scored when he poked in a low quick pass by Augustine Williams into the six-yard box from left to right. The SD Loyal defender snuck into the attack and put away the ball that had come off an LA Galaxy II defender and hit the crossbar before it came down to Williams, who nearly had a score of his own when he sent a right-footed shot off the outside wall of the goal two minutes later.
Yaro, who signed with SD Loyal April 29 and has been an integral part of the defense since then. He has played in 25 matches, starting in 21 while playing 1,963 minutes up to this week.
This is the second time Yaro is named to the league's team of the week this season. He is the 10th player to be named to the player of the week and it is the 11th time SD Loyal has a player named on this list this season as the team heads into its Week 25 home match against Sacramento Republic.
