Kansas City Comets News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (December, 12, 2014) - Only twenty-one days after having defeated the B-52's 13-3 at the Independence Events Center, the undefeated Missouri Comets (7-0) will host Wichita one more time this Saturday with their sights set on extending their winning streak to eight games.
The Wichita B-52s (3-4) recently announced former Comets player and head coach Kim Roentved as the team's new manager along with the signing of Johnny Markey, joining goalkeeper Boris Pardo and forward Byron Alvarez as previous Comets players.
"I will try not to think about Kim [Roentved] during the game, he is a really good friend of mine," Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski said. "He has already made Wichita a better team but we are only going to focus on what we do on the field and not on what they do."
Last Friday, Andonovski's team defeated the reigning PASL Champions Chicago Mustangs at home before heading to Tulsa on Saturday where they beat the Revolution. The Comets scored a total of 30 goals in two nights.
"I still haven't seen the guys play their best soccer for the whole four quarters," Andonovski said. "We have been working on the psychological aspect of the game."
Roentved's team is coming from two consecutive wins after an 8-5 home victory versus the Mustangs and a 8-4 win against the Revolution at the Cox Business Center two weeks ago.
Forward Leo Gibson continues to dominate the Major Arena Soccer League with a total of 31 points recording 17 goals and 14 assists in seven games followed by San Diego's Nick Perera with 22 points.
For the B-52s, Travis Pittman leads his team with 12 points having scored nine goals and three assists.
Against the Revolution, goalkeeper Danny Waltman only played the first half of the game as Andonovski allowed Brendan Allen to make his 2014/15 debut for the last two quarters.
"This will be a huge game, we are ready and looking for a battle but we are excited to play home again," Waltman said. "Everyone wants to play in Kansas City, we have the best fans in the league."
This will be the second out of three matches both teams will play against each other, as the Comets will visit Hartman Arena on February 8, 2015.
Next up, Missouri will host the San Diego Sockers for the first time in history on Saturday, December 27 at the Independence Events Center.
