August 30, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA - Finding themselves on the outside looking in for a moment, Fury FC will look to continue their push for a playoff spot this Friday as they visit New York Red Bulls II in Montclair, NJ. Red Bulls II are a strong and skilled team, but also one that Fury FC have historically had great success against.
Friday will mark the fifth meeting between the two clubs in USL, and the third this season. Fury FC have the advantage both historically, with a record of two wins, three draws and no losses, and on the season as they have not only tied it up at TD Place in May in the Fury FC's annual school day game, but decisively won on their first trip to MSU Soccer Park at the end of June thanks to the inspired hat-trick performance by FC Dallas loanee Adonijah Reid, his first of his pro career. Fury FC have also a slight upper hand when it comes to scoring, having scored 11 times against New York and conceded only seven.
They will face a dangerous opponent in New York Red Bulls II, the league's leading scoring club this season. New York has also claimed all of its victories this seasons on their home pitch and will be coming off two consecutive draws, including the one against the Charleston Battery in which they orchestrated a second-half surge to salvage a point.
Both clubs find themselves in the thick of things, fighting for a post-season spot in the Eastern Conference, and will meet in a six-pointer swing match Friday evening at MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, New Jersey (KO 7 p.m.). Fury FC will look to capture the crucial points before preparing for another busy week that will see them travelling to Toronto on Thursday (Sept 6, KO 8 p.m.) and hosting the inaugural CapCity Cup against the Montreal Impact on Friday (Sept 7, KO 7 p.m.).
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
Forward Adonijah Reid
On his past success against NYRBII... "From last game [against New York] I scored the three goals to help the team win, so I'm trying to see if this can happen again, trying to get some goals for the team and make things happen so we can make sure to come back home with the three points."
On facing NYRBII... "Like the lads have been saying, we have to treat every game like a final. We just have to bounce back stronger. We've got a really good team, and we know they have a good team as well. But with the tactics and the things that we do, I think we can beat them."
Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau
On facing NYRBII... "It's a tough game. Red Bulls II is a great team, they are in front of us in the standings as well. They are a team that scores a lot of goals, but they also concede a lot. We shut them down twice this season so far and we want to it a third time, even if it is away and it's going to be a rough game because they play very well at home."
"The team is ready. We're prepared. We had a week without games which is a little bit different because we were used to playing Wednesdays and Saturdays, now we're only playing on Friday. It's ok, we got a little more time to rest so we're looking forward to it."
On his preparation following couple tough results..."Like usual. Getting all my training done during the week, everything is there, there's nothing I changed in my routine to prepare for the game. It's just another one that we must win. If the team wins, I'm happy. To add clean sheets and all that, that's just bonuses."
