Real Monarchs News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Real Monarchs SLC (17-7-2, 53 points, 1 West) fell to Western Conference foe Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 0-1 on Wednesday evening. The loss sees the club remain winless on the road since June 16.
Throughout the first half of play, both teams traded possession in the early goings with no clear chances to show for until late in the half. The best chance in the first half fell the way of the hosts, as former Monarchs midfielder Karsten Hanlin's volley from inside the penalty area skipped off the post and out for a goal kick on the 33rd minute. On two occasions in the first half, Switchbacks FC found the back of the net but on both occasions were judged to be offside.
The second half of action saw the Monarchs generate more looks at goal as FW Chandler Hoffman entered as a second half substitute to generate a chance almost instantly, but his shot sailed high. DF Andrew Brody found himself forward on numerous occasions and nearly found the go-ahead goal himself when his rifled effort clattered off the crossbar in the 82nd minute.
Switchbacks FC found the breakthrough in the 87th minute when forward Saeed Robinson curled a shot past GK Adam Grinwis and into the far corner, send Weidner Field into a frenzy. The goal would hold despite the Monarchs late efforts as the Utah side fell for the seventh time this season.
UP NEXT: The Real Monarchs are back at Zions Bank Stadium for a special Labor Day match on Monday, September 3rd to take on San Antonio FC. The match is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. MT.
GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:
COS: Saeed Robinson (Josh Suggs), 87th minute: A counter attack late in the match saw Switchbacks FC break towards the Monarchs goal looking for the go-ahead goal. The ball found its way to Robinson by way of Suggs. Robinson cut back 20 yards from goal and curled a wonderful shot into the far post for the game winner.
NOTES:
- MF Masta Kacher faced his former side from Colorado for the first time, playing 90 minutes in the loss.
- The loss sees the club remain winless on the road since June 16 where it beat Saint Louis FC 1-0.
