Penn FC News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Forward Aaron Dennis has been called up to compete for the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team in the upcoming international window.
Though Dennis lists his hometown as Elmont, N.Y., he was born in the Virgin Islands, making him eligible for their player pool.
The 25-year-old Dennis, who has made appearances in fifteen games this season, starting in nine, will have his first opportunity to play at an international level on Sept. 9, against Canada. This match will be the first official game of CONCACAF's Nations League Qualifiers.
"I'm excited to get down there and start working," Dennis said. "And obviously the game will be a good time and it will be cool to compete against Canada so I'm really excited about that."
"I obviously want to play well and do the best I can," he added. "I'd like to represent my country as well as I can."
The Nations League is a new competition staged by CONCACAF beginning with the qualification phase that starts in September and runs through March of 2019.
"I think it's good, it's good for all the countries that are involved in it," Dennis said about the new tournament. "And like I said I'm excited to be a part of it."
The qualification process will determine which league (A, B or C) each team will compete in for the group stage of the tournament which will run from September to November of 2019. Of CONCACAF's 41 teams, 34 are participating in the qualification process. The six teams that participated the last Hexagonal for World Cup qualification were automatically placed into the top league.
Dennis will depart for the Virgin Islands on Sept. 3, following the match against Bethlehem Steel FC. Due to this call up, he will miss the home match against Atlanta United 2 on Saturday, Sept. 8. However, he is expected to return to Harrisburg on the 10th just in time for the home match against Indy Eleven on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
