Match Notes: Atlético Ottawa V York United FC Sept 1

September 1, 2021 - Canadian Premier League (CPL)
Atletico Ottawa News Release

Atlético Ottawa enters the second of four straight home matches looking to remain undefeated at home in regular CPL season following a gritty draw on Sunday, this time as it hosts York United FC on Wednesday night at TD Place (KO 7pm, live on OneSoccer, TSN1200).

MATCH NOTES

This is the second meeting between the two sides in two weeks. The August 18 matchup finished on a 1-1 draw thanks to a crafty 89th-minute goal by Atlético Ottawa's Alberto Soto.

Atlético Ottawa and York United FC will meet again three more times this season, and as soon as September 14th.

York United is coming off a 3-1 loss against Forge FC on Saturday, and 2W-2D-2L in their last six matches.

In league stats, Atlético Ottawa holds the unenviable record for the number of straight red cards received this season, with 3 in 14 matches.

Head Coach Mista acknowledged after the match on Sunday, and another red card shown to one of his players, that such was sometimes the fate of young clubs and that was part of the learning opportunities for his squad. The Atléti will look to maintain its passion and fight but harness it in and stay disciplined.

Much like Sunday, Ottawa will have to be creative and rely on some of the young blood on its roster as it is facing a large number of absentees again for this matchup, with 5 navigating injury prevention management and a few other known injuries or suspension.

OUT: Brandon John (injury, season); Vashon Neufville (injury); Drew Beckie (medical); Keesean Ferdinand (injury protocols); Milovan Kapor (injury protocols); Shawn-Claud Lawson (injury protocols); Dylon Powley (injury protocols); Raul Uche (injury protocols); Ryan Telfer (suspension; red card).

IN OTHER NEWS

A reminder that Atlético Ottawa's match at York United FC originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 15 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 14 at 7 PM at York Lions Stadium in order to accommodate the recently announced 2021 Canadian Championship Quarter-Final Round schedule.
