South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release
STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC continues to prepare for its 2023 USL League One regular season as it takes on the USL Championship's Tampa Bay Rowdies this Saturday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine FIeld at Tormenta Stadium. Tormenta FC will look to build on last week's 2-1 win against Georgia State University and play against its first professional side in 2023. Head Coach Ian Cameron will look to finalize his 2023 League One roster against one of the best Championship sides.
The Statesboro side receives the visit of a Tampa Bay Rowdies team that is aiming to go all the way in 2023. Despite a 2-1 win last Saturday against Georgia State, Tormenta FC will have to play up to its competition. With Kazaiah Sterling and newly arrived Pedro Fonseca finding goals last Saturday, Tormenta FC now have to find stability and finishing in the final third. Notably, Tormenta FC alums Charlie Dennis and Conner Antley return to Statesboro following successful stints with South Georgia in 2018- 2020.
South Georgia now plays against its first Championship team of the year, following two wins against Championship sides in 2022 against the Charleston Battery and the Birmingham Legion FC. The game against the Rowdies will help South Georgia prepare for its game in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in April.
Last season, Tormenta FC traveled to Saint Petersburg, Florida, to take on the Rowdies in a preseason friendly, and South Georgia was able to pull off a 1-1 draw with the goal being scored by Arthur Bosua early in the match.
Last Saturday, the Rowdies hosted MLS side Montreal Impact, falling to the Canadian-based side 2-1. The Rowdies open its Championship regular season on March 11, when they host Indy Eleven at Al Lang Stadium.
The growing 2023 Tormenta FC roster features a strong core of returners ready to fight for a second League One title with the added power of new midfielder Matheus Cassini, first-year professional Collin Mocyunas and many more new additions.
Tormenta FC fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2023, with Season Tickets now available for purchase.
