MASL Weekly - Week 14
January 28, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) News Release
Comets, Blast Still Untouchable; B-52s Miracle in St. Louis
1/28/15 - The Baltimore Blast improved to 13-0 and clinched the Eastern Division title, while the Missouri Comets pulled another Houdini, and the Wichita B-52s got a miracle win in St. Louis.
Baltimore has only trailed at any point in a game five times this season and has not trailed in the fourth quarter all year. The Rochester Lancers gave them a minor scare, but only scored three times in a 15-7 loss in Baltimore.
In more dramatic fashion the Comets, who already survived a wild 8-7 SO win at the Milwaukee Wave earlier this year, rallied from two goals down, tied the game with 17 seconds left, and won on a shorthanded goal in overtime against the Southern Division leading Monterrey Flash. Missouri's 8-7 win put them at 15-0 and clinched the Central Division crown. The Flash fell to 14-2.
But the you-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it moment of the week (if not the season) came from the B-52s, who rallied from 7-3 and 8-6 deficits in St. Louis to tie the game with :00.1 left on the clock. John Markey won the game for Wichita with a perfectly struck bicycle kick goal in sudden death overtime.
Wichita B-52s Game Tying and Overtime Goal 1-24-2015
MASL Team of the Week
GK - Joe Kapinos, Rochester Lancers
Kapinos earned the win on Sunday afternoon against the division rival Syracuse Silver Knights. He only allowed four goals to an offense averaging almost seven goals a game to improve his personal record to 5-3 for the 6-8 Lancers.
D - Alex Moseley, Wichita B-52s
Moseley recorded three goals in Saturday's 9-8 win over the St. Louis Ambush. He is second on the team with 26 points and has 13 goals and 13 assists so far on the season. The B-52s were able to win in OT vs. St. Louis and remain in striking distance in the Central Division playoff race.
D - Robert Palmer, Missouri Comets
Palmer had an unforgettable weekend. On Friday, he scored a goal and an assist to help the Comets clinch a playoff berth with a solid 14-8 victory over Saltillo Rancho Seco. More importantly, on Sunday Palmer scored the shorthanded game winning goal in overtime against the Monterrey Flash to clinch the Central Division title and keep Missouri undefeated.
F - Tony Donatelli, Baltimore Blast
Donatelli scored two goals against the Rochester Lancers bringing his season total to 13. His contributions in the victory helped the Blast move to 13-0 and clinch the Eastern Division title.
F - Ian Bennett, Milwaukee Wave
Of the nine goals scored by the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday Bennett had four of them, leading the Wave to a victory over the Detroit Waza Flo. Bennett leads the team with 28 points which ranks 15th best in the MASL. After a two win weekend the Wave have moved into second place in the Central Division.
F - Freddy Moojen, Dallas Sidekicks
On Sunday Moojen recorded his 5th hat trick of the season. That comes on the heels of a two goal, four assist performance in Saturday's win. In all he scored five goals and five assists in the two wins in Brownsville and is 8th in the league in scoring with 40 points.

Sidekicks in 7th Heaven
The Dallas Sidekicks scored seven goals on Sunday in a 7-6 win in Brownsville and every goal was scored and/or assisted by #7 Freddy Moojen and #77 Alex Megson.
Sockers Salvagio Hits Century Mark
The San Diego Sockers won three road games in three days and Head Coach Phil Salvagio picked up career wins #100-102 against 14 losses. He and the Sockers are 83-12 all-time in the regular season.
Ice-burg Heat
The Harrisburg Heat's latest loss gave them a dubiously elite status. The Heat teased the fans by building a three goal lead at the Farm Show Arena against the Syracuse Silver Knights only to give up 11 of the next 13 goals. Their league record 17th straight loss surpasses the mark of 16 previously sustained by the Arizona Storm and Texas Strikers. The 0-12 Heat are the only winless team in the MASL.
