Maryland Black Bears News Release
The Maryland Black Bears were eying a sweep of the Johnstown Tomahawks after a 6-4 win Friday night. And despite a great effort at the end of the game by the Black Bears, the Tomahawks got revenge with a 5-2 win.
The first period was defined by powerplay goals for Johnstown, with forward Jacob Badal and defenseman Frank Jenkins cashing in on man advantages to make it 2-0 Tomahawks after 20 minutes of play. Forward Laker Aldridge responded with a second period powerplay goal for Maryland to cut the deficit to 2-1. Black Bears' captain Conor Cole recorded an assist on that goal, giving him 41 in his career (combining regular season and post-season stats). This puts him past former Maryland Black Bears' forward Luke Mountain (40) for most assists in franchise history. However, Johnstown responded 38 seconds later with a slapshot goal from defenseman Zach Stoner to make it 3-1.
In the third period, Tomahawks forward Sean Ramsey scored another powerplay goal from the slot to make it 4-1. Maryland forward Aden Bruich got his team back in the game, stuffing home a rebound while shorthanded to make it 4-2. The Black Bears were able to generate chances, but they were not enough tonight. Forward Egan Schmitt sealed the deal for Johnstown with a goal from the slot to make it 5-2, a score that would hold up to be final.
The Maryland Black Bears are off until Friday, January 7th, 2022 where they host the New Jersey Titans at Piney Orchard Ice Arena. The game can be streamed on HockeyTV.
