Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
HARLINGEN, Texas - Miguel Martinez pitched a complete game shutout as he pitched the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 4-0 Thursday night at Harlingen Field.
Martinez (2-2) scattered four hits while striking out four for his second win of the season.
The Roadrunners (8-7) got on the board in the top of the second inning. Tony Phillips hit a two-run triple that allowed Carlos Hereaud and Derek Perren to score. With two outs, Phillips came into score making it 3-0 Edinburg.
Stantrel Smith started the top of the fifth with a single and then stole second base. After moving to third on a single by Wilmer Pino, Smith came into score on a wild pitch that extended the lead 4-0.
That is all Martinez would need as he completed the shutout giving Edinburg the 4-0 victory.
Tony Phillips, Smith, and Pino each finished the night 2-for-4.
Luis Chirinos (1-2) allowed four runs, two earned, in five innings while striking out just two.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will wrap up their four-game series Friday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
