The Marthas Vineyard Sharks (16-15) jumped out to an early lead on the Torrington Titans (14-14) and captured a 22-1 victory on Wednesday at Vineyard Baseball Park.
Fifteen runs in the first three innings allowed the Marthas Vineyard Sharks to put the game away early.
A solo home run by Ryan Kelly, a groundout by Jon Mayer, and an RBI double by Steve Buckley during the first inning and an RBI single by Kelly, a single by Kelly, a single by Brian Campbell, a hit by pitch, and a solo home run by Mayer in the second inning helped the Marthas Vineyard Sharks put some runs on the board early.
Mayer racked up seven RBIs on three hits for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks.
Nick Fuller kept contact to a minimum, striking out 10 the Torrington Titans batters. Fuller allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks over six innings.
Mike Bonaiuto ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in one inning, walked two and struck out none.
The Marthas Vineyard Sharks pounded the Torrington Titans pitching, as seven hitters combined for 15 hits, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
