Marshals Advance To Second Round of Playoffs
July 13, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
The Marshals News Release
The Cincinnati Marshals found out Wednesday afternoon their 2006 National Indoor Football League Atlantic Conference playoff run is not over after all.
The Marshals were originally to play last weekend in Osceola, however Osceola could not host Saturday or Sunday due to a week long rodeo at Silver Spurs Arena. The Marshals were asked to host instead, however there was a conflict with U.S. Bank Arena due to the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert. Late on Friday, the Marshals were told the game would be played on Monday night in Lakeland. However, the Marshals could not secure transportation and Osceola was originally awarded a forfeit.
The Marshals protested the ruling based on Osceola not being in compliance with league policy in regard to playoff eligibility due to missing paperwork. The NIFL ruled in favor of the Marshals and awarded them the first round forfeit and as second round date with River City.
Cincinnati will play River City at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the Savvis Center. It marks the sixth time in two seasons the two teams have met. Cincinnati has just one win in the series - last year in the playoffs at St. Louis.
The Marshals advanced to the Atlantic Conference finals last season before falling to the Rome Renegades.
