Message from the Osceola NIFL General Manager
I wanted to take a moment to clarify some of the events of the past several days regarding the end of our regular season and the start of the post season.
Osceola finished the regular season 8-6, which resulted in a berth in the NIFL playoffs. Our scheduled opponent for that game was Cincinnati. The game was scheduled to be played in Cincinnati on Saturday, July 8th. On July 6th, we were notified by the Cincinnati Team that they were not able to secure their venue. The following day, the game was moved with the approval of the NIFL to the Lakeland, Florida Civic Center for Monday, July 10th. Cincinnati notified us they would not be able to make the trip, and the NIFL awarded Osceola a forfeit win.
Throughout this week, we began preparation for our next game with River City, scheduled for July 15th in St. Louis. Transportation, hotels, and a practice facility were booked and scheduled. Yesterday (July 12th), we were notified that the NIFL had changed its position, and we would be expected to play a game against Cincinnati on July 14th in St. Louis, with the winner playing the next night against River City. We felt this to be ridiculous and reckless.
There have been several releases regarding Osceola's failure to meet NIFL paperwork requirements. Let me clarify. Osceola was being asked to sign a non-compete agreement, essentially binding us to only playing within the NIFL for a period of two years. While we are fully committed to playing professional indoor football in Osceola County in 2007 and beyond, we would like to explore all opportunities (including the NIFL), as to our future direction and league affiliation.
While this is an obviously disappointing end to our 2006 season, it will absolutely allow us to position ourselves to put an even higher quality product on the field in 2007.
Thank you again from the entire Osceola Football Staff for your support!
