Ghostriders rally to tip Spartans, 46-43

AUGUSTA, Ga.. - Brandon Sumner rushed for four touchdowns, including the game-winner with one minute remaining as the Osceola Ghostriders rallied from a 21-0 second quarter to defeat the Augusta Spartans 46-43 in a World Indoor Football League game Thursday night.

Sumner, who hadn't played in five weeks but was pressed into service with starter Rob Harding out with an injury, helped the Ghostriders (5-6) snap a three-game losing streak and clinch a WIFL playoff berth.

The former UCF standout had 78 yards rushing, only three less than his passing total of 81 yards. The Ghostriders were without two of their top receivers - Lamont Finnie and Robert Gordon, both out with injuries.

The Ghostriders took a 39-36 lead on Sumner's 2-yarder with 5:41 remaining, Augusta (6-6) regained the lead at 43-39 on Kijana Thomas' 48-yard missed field goal return at the 1:54 mark, but Osceola took the lead and then preserved it by blocking a Spartan field goal attempt in the final 30 seconds.
