Marlins Snap the Line, Swim Away from Tobs 4-3

WILSON, N.C. - Scoring four runs early, the Morehead City Marlins (6-4) held on to beat the Wilson Tobs (6-5, 2-5 CPL) 4-3 on Tuesday night at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Morehead City took a 3-0 lead off Tobs starting pitcher Darren Williams (Eastern Kentucky) in the top of the 2nd on a three-run homerun by Marlins first baseman Conner VanCleave (kU).

Justin Johnson (Lafayette College) extended Morehead's lead to four runs in the 3rd on a solo homerun to left field.

The Tobs responded with one run in the bottom of the 4th to trail 4-1 when Marlins starting pitcher Logan Campbell (Charleston) gave up a 377-foot solo shot to right field by Jared Carr (Shepherd).

Dusty Baker (Mount Olive) cut the Marlins lead in half, 4-2, in the 5th inning with an RBI single that scored James Arakawa (Pacific).

Wilson continued to chip away at Morehead City's lead to trail 4-3 in the 8th on a solo homerun by Drew Devine (Western Michigan) off Marlins reliever Cam Seguin (UMass-Lowell).

Morehead City relief pitcher Tyler Cochran (Nevada) secured the win for the Marlins by recording the save in the 9th on three strikeouts.

Seguin earned the win allowing one run on three hits in 4.0 innings of relief work. He struck out five Tobs by the end of the night.

Williams took the loss for Wilson giving up four runs in 5.0 innings pitched while fanning seven batters.

Campbell finished the night allowing two runs on two hits and four walks in 4.1 innings in his start.

On Wednesday, the Tobs continue their homestand at Historic Fleming Stadium with a doubleheader against the Tri-City Chili Peppers. Both games will run seven innings with game one starting at 5:00 p.m. ET. Game two will follow 30 minutes after the completion of the first game. The Tobs have a consecutive day with a doubleheader on Thursday as they take on the Holly Springs Salamanders in a twin-bill starting at 6:00 p.m. ET.
