Morehead City Marlins News Release
MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins (7-13) won their third straight game behind timely hitting and strong pitching as they defeated the Wilson Tobs (5-13) by a score of 3-1 at Big Rock Stadium Sunday evening.
Taylor Robinson, Ryan Oglesby and William Prince combined to strike out seven Tobs and allow just six hits as the offense came back to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
With the Marlins trailing 1-0, Ryan Cranmer led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to tie the game at one and Sam Ott followed with a single and a stolen base. Robbie Rea reached on a throwing error by the pitcher that advanced Ott to third and Dalton Knight walked to load the bases. Sal Annunziata followed and ripped one to third that Tobs' third baseman Aaron Rea fielded cleanly but made an errant throw home to score Ott. After a pop out, Corey Bass reached on an error by the shortstop, scoring Rea from third and closing the scoring at 3-1.
Oglesby (1-1) earned the win, tossing a scoreless eighth inning while Prince notched his third save in as many chances. Robinson pitched well for the Marlins, going seven innings and allowing just one run without walking a batter.
Tyler Bolton (1-3) suffered the loss, giving up three runs (one earned) in 1/3 of an inning. Tyler Joyner made a strong debut for the Tobs as he did not allow a run and gave up just four hits in seven innings.
Cranmer and Ott each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Chad Shannon reached base twice out of the leadoff spot with a single and a walk.
The Marlins are back on the road tomorrow night as they make their trip "out west" to take on the Forest City Owls. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
Notes: Cranmer's home run was his fourth of the season... The Marlins played errorless baseball for the sixth time this season... With Robinson tossing seven innings, it marked the fifth time, and second in as many nights, that a Marlins' starter went at least six... The win marked the first home win for Morehead City since June 3, and only its second on the season.
