Owls Sprint Past the Hi-Toms 14-3

Thomasville, NC- After scoring just three runs in their last two games, the Owls bats broke out in a big way on Sunday. Forest City racked up fifteen hits, to go along with six walks and three hit batters, routing Thomasville 14-3. Seven of the nine Owls' starters recorded at least one hit and scored at least one run. The eleven runs scored matches the team's previous high of the season, set in a home game against Martinsville.
Forest City started quickly, putting up two runs in the first. Nate Chong walked to lead off the game. Nick McQuail singled to move Chong to third, and Bryan Aanderud scored Chong on a fielder's choice. The Owls then took advantage of some wildness from Hi-Toms starter Dylan Thompson, scoring another run on a throwing error by the pitcher and three hit batters.
Thomasville came right back in the bottom half of the first inning. Greg Harrison bashed a three-run homer off of Luis Paula to give the Hi-Toms the lead. It wouldn't last long as the Owls took the lead for good at 4-3 with two more runs in the 2nd inning. Aanderud drove in the tying run on a groundout. Ryan Welke then doubled to left field, scoring Chong for the go-ahead run.
Forest City was just getting started as the Owls piled on nine more runs to finish off the Hi-Toms. Forest City picked up three in the 3rd inning, four in the 5th, another pair in the 7th, and one more in the 8th. McQuail and Aanderud combined for seven RBI of the team's 14 runs scored. McQuail, Bryan and Jason Driver each picked up three hits as well in the victory. Stephen Tarkenton smacked a two-run double in the 7th inning to give him three straight games with at least two hits.
Paula did not surrender any runs after the first inning. The North Carolina product left after five and two-thirds innings pitched, earning his first win of the season. Driver and McQuail took the Owls the rest of the way to finish the game.
Forest City takes on its first team from the Eastern Division, the Morehead City Marlins, tomorrow night at McNair Field.
