SwampDogs Win Fourth Straight
June 17, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
The Fayetteville SwampDogs won their fourth consecutive game on Sunday night when they defeated the Edenton Steamers 6-to-5 at "The Swamp."
Mike Tauchman (Bradley) ripped his first home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, driving in Joe Ciamacco (Ohio State) to take a 6-to-4 lead.
Fayetteville took the early lead in the third when Ciamacco drove in Brian Bullard (Albany) with a single after Bullard was walked to lead off the inning.
Ciamacco extended the lead in the fifth when he doubled home Zach Gawrych (Tampa), who scored two runs on the night, bringing his league-leading total to 22 on the year. Sal Giardina (Lynn) then singled home Ciamacco for his 18th RBI of the season, also most in the CPL.
The 3-to-0 lead evaporated in the seventh, however, as the Steamers plated four runs to take a one-run lead when they recorded four consecutive hits to start the frame.
The Dogs regained the lead in the bottom half of the seventh, as a triple by Gawrych was immediately followed by a Ciamacco single, tying the game at four runs apiece. That set the stage for Tauchman's two-run blast to take the lead.
Edenton added a run in the ninth, but the Dogs held on for the 6-to-5 victory and their fourth straight win to sweep the homestand.
The next SwampDogs home game is Wednesday, June 20th, where it's Green Night at the ballpark. Fans can meet businesses whose focus is finding ways to go green in the community.
