Toronto Marlies News Release
Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has signed goaltender Todd Ford to a standard player's contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Ford, 23, appeared in four games with the Marlies last season and was the goaltender of record as Toronto emerged with a 4-2 victory in their penultimate game of the season at Winnipeg on April 14. He was recognized as the game's first star in turning aside 29 Manitoba shots in the win.
A native of Calgary, Alberta, Ford was selected in the third round, 74th overall, by the Maple Leafs in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In four appearances with Toronto last season, he registered a 2-1-0 record and a 3.27 goals against average. Ford also appeared in 37 games with the Marlies' ECHL affiliate in Columbia, SC and posted a 16-13-6 mark, a 2.98 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
In parts of two AHL seasons, both with the Marlies, Ford has accumulated a record of 5-5-0 in 13 appearances. In three campaigns at the ECHL level his record stands at 45-34-9, which includes a 19-4-2 mark posted in his rookie season of 2004-05 with the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
