Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - *The Carolina League announced on Tuesday that* *Wilmington Blue Rocks left-hander *Justin Marks* has been named the season's final CL Pitcher of the Week for the period ranging from August 29 - September 5. It marks the third time a Wilmington pitcher was honored by the league office in 2011, and the sixth time overall a Blue Rock won an award.

Marks did not allow a run in 13 innings pitched during two starts last week. He took a no-decision in an August 31 outing against the Pelicans during which he whiffed two in six scoreless frames. He then fanned eight and allowed just three hits over seven innings in a campaign-closing victory over the playoff-bound Frederick Keys on September 5.

In the season finale, Marks set down the side in order three times and retired 12 consecutive hitters at one point. It marked the seventh consecutive strong start by the southpaw, who posted a 3-0 mark and a 2.03 ERA in his final seven starts of the year.

Marks closed the season with 140 strikeouts, 13 more than any other Carolina League hurler. He went 8-8 on the campaign with a 3.98 ERA. The effort was good enough to earn him a promotion to Double-A Northwest-Arkansas where the pitcher is expected to be the Naturals' fifth starter in the playoffs.
