Marietta Storm News Release
Marietta Georgia- The Marietta Storm today announced another step in their organizational restructuring following last Sunday's news about the release of former head Coach/GM Lionel Garrett. The team had been languishing in their division and had lost 5 of their last 6 games.
The Storm announced that assistant coach Courtney Brooks has been promoted to Head Coach. A 1994 graduate of Georgia State University, Brooks recently completed his 7th year as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy. In his seven years he has won two Class A State Championships, 2004 and 2006. His school is most noted for the 2004 NBA 1st Draft pick Dwight Howard II (Orlando Magic). In addition to being a High School Basketball Coach, Courtney is an Ordained Elder and an Assistant Pastor at Prophetic World Ministries International. Courtney was also named Georgia Athletic Coaches Association - State Coach of the Year 2004 and has a career record of 171-47 (78%)
Revelle Williams, also an assistant coach with the team, has been named Director of Operations. In addition to serving as assistant coach, Williams will oversee various facets of the team including contract negotiations and logistics. Revelle is a graduate of Wingate University in North Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1988. During his tenure at Wingate University from 1984-1988, he was a three year starter and team captain his junior and senior seasons and was one of the top three point shooters in NCAA Div. II. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year for the 1986-87 season. Williams played with the Harlem Legends, a traveling team with former Harlem Globetrotters, college and professional players. Revelle owns an IT consulting company that has had contracts with the city of Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
With this reorganization, the entire Storm organization seems re-energized. "We're gonna shock the world," new coach Courtney Brooks told the players at the official announcement of his hiring. Storm fans
