Marietta Storm News Release
The Marietta Storm defeat the Griffin Warriors 116-113 to get the first win of their inaugural season. The Storm led the game by as many as 8 points throughout the first half. In the third quarter with 8:44 on the clock the Storm led 62-54. The Warriors attempted to rally back in the fourth quarter. Head Coach Lionel Garrett stated, "We played well defensively but had problems scoring." He went on to say, "we made some adjustments and I knew we would win!" After several failed attempts at a 3-point basket to tie the game in the last seconds, the Warriors' time came to an end. Just as Garret predicted, the Storm came away victorious. "The goal is to win our divisional games", explained Garrett. It looks as if Garrett and his staff have put together an all-star team with the recent signing of MaJic Dorsey, last year's WBA MVP and Jamario Moon, formerly of the NBDL Fort Worth Flyers.
The Storm had six players score in double digits: MaJic Dorsey- 32points (lead scorer), Jamario Moon 19 points, Darius Mattear- 18, Leroy Davis-14 points, Sylvester Morgan-11 and Steve Horne-12 points. Garrett expects great things from this team. The team and coaches seem pleased with the new additions. "MaJic brings a level of leadership to the team that's respected by all. Darius Mattear is the definition of a hard worker", stated Garrett.
Storm fans raved about the intensity and excitement of the game. "I was sitting at the tip of my seat the entire game," stated fan Melanie Armstead.
The Storm will take on the Anderson Heat, their second division game of the season, at 7pm on Saturday May 6, 2006 at Life University in Marietta.
