Ferdinand recently announced that she and her fiancée are expecting their first child in June. She is expected to miss the first half of the 2006 season and has plans of returning sometime after the WNBA All-Star Game, which takes place midway through the season.

After being selected by the Utah Starzz with the eighth overall pick in the 20001 WNBA Draft, Ferdinand enjoyed two successful seasons with the Starzz before they relocated to the Alamo City. In 2002 she helped lead Utah to the Western Conference Finals, averaging a career-best 15.3 points while starting all 32 games.

Everyone at Spurs Sports & Entertainment is great and they've been really good to me since my first day in San Antonio. The fans have been absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to get back on the court and here them cheer us on. "
