Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club is proud to share that defenseman Marek Alscher has been selected to Team Czechia's preliminary roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championships. Alscher has departed Portland to attend the Czech national team camp, designed to assemble its best under-20 team for the tournament that will be played in Gothenburg, Sweden from Dec. 26, 2023, to Jan. 5, 2024.

Alscher has played for his home country at the under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-20 levels of competition, including the 2022 Four Nations Tournament with Winterhawks teammate Jan Špunar. Alscher signed his entry-level contract with the NHL club last spring. He was originally selected by the Winterhawks in the first round, #26 overall, of the 2021 CHL Import Draft and ranks second among all-time Winterhawks import defensemen with 17 goals.

Alscher and Team Czechia will kick off the tournament on Dec. 26 at 3:00 A.M. PT against Slovakia before taking on Norway, United States and Switzerland to round out group play.
