Marcus Newson of Eldorado High School wins Gladiators\' Ironman Award

Las Vegas, NV, October 6, 2004 â The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football" and US Army, awarded Marcus Newson of Eldorado High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the sixth week of the 2004 high school football season.
The Gladiators and US Army, will honor Newson by making a $250 donation to the Eldorado High School athletic department.
In Eldorado's fourth win of the season, the senior running back led the Sundevils' to a 43-0 victory over Rancho High School on Friday, October 1. Newson led the Eldorado offense with 184 rushing yards on 11 carries, including touchdown runs of 70 yards and 23 yards, to lead the eighth-ranked Sundevils (4-2, 1-0 Northeast) past the Rams (1-5, 0-1).
Newson also excels off the field well as he holds a 3.2 GPA.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.
Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.
The US Army provides direction for detailed planning, preparation and execution of the full range of tasks necessary to provide relevant and ready landpower to the Nation while maintaining the quality of the all-volunteer force.
