October 6, 2004 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release

After preliminary and semi-final rounds took place at the Dallas Cowboys training complex Sept. 25 and Oct. 2, 46 finalists were ultimately selected from more than 150 applicants. Fifteen returning veteran dancers will try to reclaim their spot while 31 new faces will also compete for a place on the 24-member roster.

The final round is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, October. 7, from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at Gilley’s Dallas, 1135 South Lamar. A panel of VIP and celebrity judges including Dallas Cowboys’ running back Julius Jones will select the 2004-2005 Dallas Desperados Dancers.

“In four years of auditions, this might be the most talented group of finalists we have ever had,” said Dallas Desperados Dancers director Pamela Jagger Purcel. “The final decision will likely be a tough one for our judges, but we are confident we will have another outstanding squad.”

In their short three-year history, the Dallas Desperados Dancers have received international attention for their fun, fresh, music video style and trademark black sequined chaps. Under the direction of former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, Jagger Purcel, the Dallas Desperados Dancers organization appeals to some of the best Dancers in the area.

Selected by the editors of D Magazine as a “Best of Big D” award recipient, the Dallas Desperados Dancers entertain at all home games and also serve as ambassadors to the community appearing at a variety of appearances and events. The Dallas Desperados Dancers have the distinction of being the first AFL Dance team invited to support the U.S. troops stationed at Ft. Hood Army Post. In December, the Dancers traveled to Australia to perform and teach professional cheer/dance clinics Down Under as part of the Arena Football League’s international marketing initiative.

The Dallas Desperados kick off the 2005 season the weekend of Jan. 29-30. The 2005 season will once again consist of 16 regular season games – eight home games and eight road games – and NBC Sports will continue to televise weekly AFL games. The Arena Football League is finalizing the 2005 schedule and should be releasing that information in the coming weeks.
