Bradenton Marauders News Release
Fort Myers, FL - The Bradenton Marauders (1-0) made a first inning home run stand up for nine frames to secure a 3-1 sea- son opening win over the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium. LF Jordan Luplow's two-out, three-run blast to left field off Stephen Gonsalves (L, 0-1) was all the offense Bradenton needed on Thursday night.
2015 first round pick SS Kevin Newman led off the game with a single to center. After a pair of fielder's choice grounders produced two outs, 1B Jerrick Suiter knocked a single through the right side to put men on the corners. Luplow followed with a majestic shot onto the berm in left field.
RHP Alex McRae (W, 1-0) got the start for the Marauders and fired five scoreless innings in his debut. McRae struck out four and walked two. He ended his night with consecutive swinging whiffs of Nick Gordon and T.J. White, the Fort Myers two and three hitters. RHP Edgar Santana tossed two perfect innings and struck out three to keep the shutout through seven innings.
Fort Myers pushed across an unearned run in the eighth against RHP Sam Street. Street recovered to strand the tying runs on base by inducing a ground out from Ryan Walker.
RHP Nick Neumann pitched the ninth for Bradenton. Neumann saved 17 games for the West Virginia Power in 2015 and had no issues Thursday, striking out his first two opponents before inducing a game-ending grounder to second.
Newman finished 2-for-4 in his Bradenton debut. Luplow added a double to finish the night 2-for-4.
