Bradenton Marauders News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. - A rainy Wednesday night saw the Marauders and Tarpons match each other closely until the ninth, when Tampa pulled away to hand the Marauders a 4-1 loss at LECOM Park.

With the score tied, 1-1, Marauders (2-3, 31-39) reliever Mitchell Miller allowed back-to-back singles to Tampa's Anthony Garcia and Marcos Cabrera to start the ninth inning. After a passed ball advanced both runners, Grant Richardson followed with a two-run single to left field, giving the Tarpons (4-1, 31-40) their second lead of the night, 3-1. Richardson stole second base and took third when Marauders shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng bobbled a groundball by Roberto Chirinos. Chirinos was thrown out by catcher Wyatt Hendrie at second base on an attempted steal, but Alexander Vargas then singled to right field, scoring Richardson. The ball rolled under right fielder Randy Romero's glove, allowing Vargas to take an extra base, but a strong relay throw to third base from shallow right field nailed Vargas attempting to take third base on the play.

Right-hander Danny Watson retired the Marauders in order in the bottom of the ninth, capping a two and two-thirds scoreless inning performance for the reliever.

Through the first five innings, the game remained scoreless. Bradenton's Sergio Umana pitched five scoreless innings, and the Marauders nearly saw Brenden Dixon score from first base on a Deivis Nadal double to left-center, but a strong relay throw from Vargas in shallow left nabbed Dixon on a close play at the plate, denying the Marauders of a run.

Tarpons starter Yon Castro worked four and one-third scoreless innings, but with one out in the bottom of the fifth and Rodolfo Nolasco on first base with a walk, the umpires waved both teams off the field with inclement weather approaching.

After a rain and lightning delay that lasted two hours and 40 minutes, play resumed at 10:15 p.m. and Bradenton left Nolasco stranded on first base, as right-hander Kevin Milam struck out two batters to end the fifth.

Jasson Dominguez gave the Tarpons a 1-0 lead in the sixth with a solo home run to left-center off Marauders lefty Yoelvis Reyes, but Bradenton answered in the bottom half on a game-tying homer to right by Cheng. Neither team, however, would score again until Tampa's decisive ninth-inning rally, and the game ended just shy of 11:30 p.m.

The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at LECOM Park. RHP Wilkin Ramos will start for the Marauders, while RHP Juan Carela will start for Tampa.
