Marauders Announce Roster; Meet the Team Tonight at LECOM Park
April 3, 2018 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Bradenton Marauders News Release
Bradenton, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders, High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, today announced the roster that will open the team's ninth season at LECOM Park. The Marauders, led by second-year Manager Gera Alvarez, will play their first home game of the season on Saturday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. The entire roster and coaching staff will appear at tonight's Meet the Marauders event at LECOM Park.
The Bradenton pitching staff features experienced Florida State League hurlers James Marvel, Cam Vieaux, Gage Hinsz, Jordan Jess, and Jess Amedee. Those five pitchers all saw time with Bradenton last season. Intriguing newcomers include righty flamethrower Luis Escobar, towering lefty Oddy Nunez, and 2017 trade acquisition Angel German will open the season in the Friendly City. Other newcomers are Ronny Agustin, Matt Eckelman, Eduardo Vera, and Michael Wallace.
Bradenton will benefit early in the season from having Bo Schultz on the pitching staff. Schultz has pitched in the majors and is coming off Tommy John surgery in 2017.
Bradenton has a tradition of strong play behind the dish, and the 2018 crop of catchers should uphold that standard. John Bormann, who made an appearance with the Pirates in 2017, is joined by Arden Pabst and Jason Delay to start the season.
Alfredo Reyes played all over the field for Bradenton in 2017. He lends a veteran presence to the 2018 Marauders infield. Adrian Valerio and Trae Arbet figure to anchor the middle of the infield. Albert Baur will see time at first base.
The outfield will see plenty of explosive athletes vying for time. Casey Hughston brings his potent mix of power and speed back to LECOM Park. He is joined by newcomers Bligh Madris, Jared Oliva, Hunter Owen, and Lucas Tancas. Tyler Gaffney, who played in the Pirates' system in 2012 before returning to Stanford University for his senior season of football, returns to the diamond with the Marauders. Gaffney spent four seasons in the NFL.
Marauders fans have their first chance to meet the Marauders at LECOM Park tonight. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be attended by every player and the coaching staff. A formal announcement of the roster will take place at 6:45 p.m., followed by an autograph session on the field. There is no charge to enter the event. Concessions will be available for purchase.
The Marauders play their first home game of the 2018 campaign on Saturday, April 7. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. game.
Tickets can be purchased at the LECOM Park ticket office. The ticket office will be open on Tuesday-Friday non-gamedays from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. On gamedays the box office will be open on weekdays from 11:00 a.m. until the end of the game and on weekends from two hours before first pitch until the end of the game. The box office will open two hours prior to any 10:30 a.m. games.
