Bradenton Marauders News Release
Bradenton, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders, High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, today announced the roster that will open the team's seventh season at McKechnie Field. The Marauders, led by second-year Manager Michael Ryan, will play their first home game of the season on Saturday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. The entire roster and coaching staff will appear at Eat Here on Gulf Drive in Holmes Beach.
Pirates 2015 Minor League Pitcher of the Year Yeudy Garcia will headline the Bradenton starting rotation. The righty won 12 games and posted a sparking ERA of 2.10 for the West Virginia Power. Garcia will be joined in the rotation by fellow right handed hurlers Colten Brewer, Austin Coley, and Alex McRae, as well as lefthander Brandon Waddell. Coley won 16 games for the Power last season, while Waddell won the College World Series with the Virginia Cavaliers and the New York Penn League title with the West Virginia Black Bears.
Bradenton will have a bullpen stocked with experienced arms. 2015 Marauders Luis Heredia, Henry Hirsch, Junior Lopez, and Miguel Rosario will open the season back in Bradenton. Nick Neumann, Edgar Santana, and Sam Street will join the returners to form a fierce relief corps.
The 2016 crop of position players is highlighted by two of the Pirates' top 2015 draft picks suiting up in the middle infield. Shortstop Kevin Newman was selected 19th overall last June. Second round selection Kevin Kramer will play second base. Local product Michael Suchy, a graduate of Bradenton's Southeast High School, should lend a potent bat to the outfield. Suchy was a South Atlantic League All-Star with the Power last year.
Taylor Gushue, a former Florida Gator and 2014 fourth round pick, will start behind the plate for Bradenton. Gushue will be joined by Erik Lunde and Tomas Morales as Marauders backstops.
Several additional key bats from the 2015 Power playoff team will join Bradenton. Marauders fans can look forward to seeing Elvis Escobar, Connor Joe, Jordan Luplow, Pablo Reyes, Chase Simpson, and Jerrick Suiter at McKechnie Field. Logan Hill will add championship pedigree after starring for the Black Bears last year. Returning Marauders Jeff Roy and Trace Tam Sing will lend experience to what should be a dynamic squad.
The Marauders play their first home game on Saturday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m. against the Fort Myers Miracle. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. The McKechnie Field box office hours are Tuesday-Friday non-gamedays from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. On gamedays the box office will be open on weekdays from 11:00 a.m. until the end of the game and on weekends from two hours before first pitch until the end of the game.
