Manchester Monarchs Assigned Matt Marcinew and Matt Schmalz

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Matt Marcinew and Matt Schmalz have been assigned to the team by the Ontario Reign (AHL).

The Monarchs are the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings.

Marcinew, 24, comes to the Monarchs after playing one game for the Reign this season. Marcinew spent the 2016-17 season with the University of Denver where he scored 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists in 44 games, and won the NCAA National Championship.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound native of Calgary, Alberta, played 160 career games at Denver, and scored 64 points on 29 goals and 35 assists. Marcinew made his AHL debut Oct. 14 against the Chicago Wolves.

Schmalz, 21, comes to Manchester after playing 62 games with the Owen Sound Attack (OHL) during the 2016-17 season. With the Sound Attack, Schmalz scored 31 points on 16 goals and 15 assists. The right-shot also skated in 17 playoff games and scored seven points on three goals and four assists.

The 6-foot-6, 209-pound native of Dunnville, Ontario, logged 308 career games in the OHL between the Sound Attack and Sudbury Wolves, where he scored 119 points on 56 goals and 63 assists. Schmalz was a drafted by the Los Angeles Kings (#134 overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Schmalz made his AHL debut with the Reign on Mar. 30, 2016 against the San Jose Barracudas and scored his first professional goal on Apr. 16, 2016 against the San Diego Gulls.

Marcinew, Schmalz and the Monarchs open their home slate at SNHU Arena against the Worcester Railers on Oct. 21 (6 p.m.). Opening Night Packs include four tickets to the game, and are on sale for just $40, HERE.
