Brevard County Manatees News Release

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Powerful bats and a tremendous pitching performance led the Brevard County Manatees to a 3-2 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle on Tuesday Night at Hammond Stadium.

Three solo home runs were all the scoring that the Manatees (30-27) would need behind starting pitcher Jed Bradley (4-2, 4.68). The lefty tossed six innings, allowed just one run on three hits, while walking two and striking out three. For Bradley, it was his first win since May 5 against Charlotte and his first win on the road since April 9 in Lakeland.

Mitch Haniger crushed a first pitch fastball over the left field wall to lead off the third inning. Haniger's first home run with the Manatees gave Brevard County a 1-0 lead.

Cameron Garfield hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to double the Brevard County lead. For the newly named Florida State League All-Star, Garfield, it was his seventh homer of the season.

One inning later, Lance Roenicke laced his second homer of the year and his solo blast to left field gave the Manatees a 3-0 lead. All three Brevard County home runs came off of Miracle (40-17) starting pitcher Jason Wheeler.

Miguel Sano would get Fort Myers on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth as he hit an opposite field solo homer to right field, trimming the lead to two.

Andre Lamontagne entered for the seventh to relieve Bradley. Lamontagne allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases with two outs. Eddie Rosario, who entered the day as the FSL's leading hitter, lifted a shallow fly ball to left that was caught by Ben McMahan to end the threat.

After earning the save on Monday night, Tommy Toledo was called upon for a six-out save as he entered with a two-run lead in the eighth inning. He allowed an unearned run in the eighth to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

The Manatees were unable to tack on any insurance runs in the top of the ninth and Toledo went back out to the hill with the one run lead. After he retired the first two batters, Levi Michael singled to right field and then Rosario walked to keep the Miracle alive.

Sano, the league-leader in home runs, was next to the plate with two on and two out. Toledo was able to win the battle, as he struck out Sano looking on a slider with a 1-2 count to clinch yet another one-run victory for the Manatees.

With the win, Brevard County improved to 16-5 on the season in one-run games. Game three of the four-game series will take place on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.

Another Brevard County All-Star, David Goforth (4-5, 3.05) will be on the mound for the Manatees. Matt Summers (1-4, 3.99) will get the call for the Miracle.
