
Miracle Send Seven to the All-Star Game

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Seven members of the Fort Myers Miracle were named to the Florida State League All-Star team for the South Division as announced by League President Chuck Murphy.
Relievers Zack Jones, Corey Williams and Chad Rodgers will represent the Miracle bullpen. Jones, fourth round selection in 2012 by the Twins, has appeared in 16 games with six saves and a 2-1 record. Jones has an earned run average of 1.23 and has 29 strikeouts in 22 innings. Williams, drafted in the third round in 2011, has a 2.75 earned run averages and 14 saves in 19.2 innings. Williams has pitched in 17 games and registered eight saves. Rodgers, signed as a free agent prior to the season, has a 3-1 record with a 2.53 earned run average.
Starter D.J. Baxendale was also named to the All-Star team. Called up to Double-A New Britain on May 26, Baxendale went 7-0 in nine starts with 48 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 57.1 innings. A 10th round pick in 2012, Baxendale had a league-best WHIP of 0.78 and earned run averages of 1.10 at the time of his promotion.
Top power hitter and heralded prospect third baseman Miguel Sano, first baseman Kennys Vargas and catcher Matt Koch will represent the Miracle position players. Sano, a top prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization, has launched league-leading 13 home runs and driven in 44 runs. Sano is currently hitting .335, third-best in the FSL.
Vargas, signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2009, has an FSL-best 48 runs batted in. The 6-5, 273-pound native of Canovanas, Puerto Rico is hitting .287 with 11 home runs and leads the Miracle with 17 doubles. Vargas had a very productive month of May, hitting .313 with eight homers and 30 runs driven in.
Koch, a 12th round selection in 2011, has a .288 average with two home runs and 16 runs batted in. Appearing in 39 games, Koch has nine extra base-hits and a .371 on-base percentage.
The 52nd Florida State League All-Star Game will be played at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, home of the Dunedin Blue Jays, on Saturday, June 15 at 7:05 p.m. The All-Star Players, Coaches and Umpires will be honored at events during All-Star Weekend.
