Manatees Score 8 Unanswered in 9-4 Win over Mets

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees scored eight unanswered runs in a 9-4 comeback win over the St. Lucie Mets on Saturday at Tradition Field.

Trailing 4-1 with two outs and the bases empty in the fourth, the Manatees strung together seven consecutives hits and a walk to score six runs and take a 7-4 lead. Dustin DeMuth tied the game with a two-run double. Elvis Rubio followed with the go-ahead two-run single. Clint Coulter capped the inning with a RBI ground rule double. All the damage was done against Mets starter Scarlyn Reyes

Coulter launched a two-run homer in the eighth off of Kelly Secrest to make it 9-4.

The Mets appeared to be in good shape early. They put together four consecutive two-out hits in the first inning vs. Bubba Derby. Michael Katz hit a RBI single and Tomas Nido launched a three-run homer, his second of the year, to put the Mets up 4-1.

The Mets ended up with 10 hits but they were just 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position. Derby was able to strand a runner in scoring position in his final five innings of work. He got the win after holding the Mets to four runs in six innings.

Junior Rincon shut out the Mets over the final three innings to get the save.

Amed Rosario went 3 for 5 in the loss. Patrick Biondi was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple.

Reyes suffered his seventh loss. He was charged with seven earned runs on 10 hits in five innings.

The Mets loss was their eighth in the last nine games. They are now alone in last place in the FSL South after being alone in first place nine days ago.

Next Up: The Mets (26-29, 6th) and Manatees (20-35) shift their four-game series to Space Coast Stadium in Viera on Sunday. First pitch is 5:05 p.m.
