Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth will host the Portland LumberJax in the 2009 season home opener this Saturday, January 10. Following a Friday night contest between the same two teams in Portland, the squads face off at Pepsi Center Saturday at 7pm.
Colorado enters its seventh season in the National Lacrosse League led by veterans Gee Nash and team captain Gavin Prout. Both players are perennial All-Stars and were members of the 2006 Mammoth team that won the NLL Championship. "These two guys are superstars in our game and this organization is glad to have them back for another season," Mammoth General Manager Steve Govett said.
Goalie Gee Nash has been a star in the Colorado lineup since 2004. He backstopped the team to 7 of their 9 victories last season and has tallied a total of 43 wins during his career with the Mammoth.
Forward Gavin Prout enters his sixth season with the Mammoth and fourth as the team's captain. Colorado's all-time leading scorer with 483 points (161g, 322a), Prout returns to follow up a 2008 season that saw him tie for second in the league in points.
Last season, the Mammoth was 6-2 at home including a 10-9 opening night win over Calgary in front of a sellout crowd of 17,811. Colorado has won its last two home openers and is 5-1 overall in Pepsi Center season debuts.
