CALGARY, ALBERTA - One night after beating the Calgary Roughnecks to earn a playoff berth, the Colorado Mammoth saw its winning streak halted at four by its arch-rivals at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, 14-9.
A first-quarter hat trick from Mammoth forward Adam Jones carried Colorado to a 4-4 tie at the end of the period. But in the second, the Mammoth was held scoreless while the Roughnecks tacked on four more. Calgary never looked back.
Rookie Alex Buque made his third consecutive start in goal, registering 39 saves in his first career loss. Buque allowed 12 goals and Calgary added two empty-netters late.
Colorado managed 34 shots on goal, 19 fewer than its opponent. The Mammoth scored twice on the power play, both courtesy of Jones. He also added a short-handed marker in the third quarter to finish with a game-high five goals and the honor of being named the game's Second Star.
The Mammoth visits the Rochester Knighthawks next Sat., April 11 before hosting the three-time defending NLL champions on Fri., April 17 on 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' Night presented by Sarah Cannon Cancer Network at HealthONE.
