Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks knocked off the Toronto Rock, 11-7, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Friday night as they kicked off a two-game weekend. With the victory, the Knighthawks won the season series against their East Division rivals.
The Knighthawks received five-point nights from Dan Dawson (3+2) and Joe Walters (1+4). Joe Resetarits scored twice in his Knighthawks debut, while Cody Jamieson (2+1), Stephen Keogh (1+2) and Brad Self (1+2) all chipped in three-point efforts. Jordan Hall also collected one goal and three assists. Matt Vinc stood tall in goal with a stellar 49-save effort, which was his best performance of the 2015 season.
"I liked the way our defense played. They were forcing them into lanes," Vinc said. "We were confident and limiting a lot of their time and space. It allows me to get in the game a little bit. Being in goal is all about being confident and I feel like I was confident in myself and the 'D' guys in front of me."
The Knighthawks came out firing in the first half, outscoring the Rock 5-2. Keogh started the Knighthawks' scoring run, tying the game at one apiece 4:10 into the first quarter. Dawson followed suit giving the Knighthawks their first lead of the game. Cutting to the crease, Walters then put in a beautiful goal to take a 3-1 lead. The quarter closed out with another one from Dawson, which was followed by Resetarits' first goal of the game. The marker was his first since being dealt to Rochester at the trade deadline earlier this week.
"Going out with a great team, doing what you know what to do, I was just feeding off the guys," Resetarits said. "I was just getting open for the guys, everybody on that offense. I just went out there, played my game and picked up right where I left off. I'm just thrilled to be back."
Rochester continued to power through the second quarter with Hall notching up a power-play goal to give the defending champions a solid 6-2 lead. Dawson completed his hat trick in fabulous fashion as he performed a spin-move around his defender to give the Knighthawks a 7-2 advantage. Jamieson followed by ripping a shot to the upper right-corner of the net and it was 8-2. The Rock would get back two quick goals before the end of the half, but Rochester held on to an 8-4 lead.
Things slowed down in the third quarter with each team only putting up two goals. Toronto opened up scoring, but Self scored 14 seconds later to regain a four-goal lead for the Knighthawks. After a silent 10-minutes, Resetarits put in his second of the night as the ball trickled past Toronto goaltender Nick Rose to give Rochester a 10-5 lead. Toronto answered right back to keep it a four-goal game. Jamieson, however, scored the Knighthawks' lone fourth quarter goal at 12:46 to solidify the win.
"It was a great win, but tomorrow night we need to bring the exact same effort," said Dawson. "We need to move on from this win and focus on Minnesota as soon as we leave this dressing room."
The Knighthawks are back in action on Saturday, April 4th as they take on the Minnesota Swarm at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Crosse Arena at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling the Knighthawks office at (585) 454-HAWK (4295).
