Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER – Colorado Mammoth captain Gary Gait knows how to mark up a National Lacrosse League scoresheet, even when he doesn't register a single goal. Gait, the NLL's all-time leading scorer with 587 career goals, didn't add to his total on Saturday night, but he assisted on seven Mammoth goals to lead all scorers with seven points.

Gait's helpers facilitated an offensive outburst that carried the Mammoth to a 16-8 thumping of the Anaheim Storm before 16,270 fans at Pepsi Center. The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the Mammoth (7-5), which took over sole possession of second place in the West Division. The Storm (2-8) remains in last place.

The Mammoth, which has never lost to the Storm at Pepsi Center, broke open a close game in the third quarter, scoring seven of the game's final eight goals. The rout came on the heels of Colorado's costly loss in Philadelphia on Friday night.

Brian Langtry led the Mammoth with four goals and Dan Stroup added three tallies. Nick Carlson, Brad Self and Josh Sims each scored twice, while Del Halladay, Jay Jalbert and Gavin Prout added singles.

Goaltender Gee Nash made 43 saves to backstop the Mammoth to its fifth win in seven home games this season. Mammoth defenseman Dave Stilley's fight with Anaheim's Damien Davis before the opening faceoff got both players ejected before the game even started. With the crowd energized the Mammoth bolted to a 2-0 lead on goals by Self and Langtry. Former Mammoth player Shawn Cable scored to tie the game at four with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, but the Mammoth responded quickly. Halladay put the Mammoth back on top with nine seconds left, then Jalbert corralled the ensuing faceoff, drove to the net, spun around his man and rifled a shot to the top corner to make it 6-4 as time expired. The second quarter started with goals by Stroup and Sims. Langtry joined the play on a delayed penalty and ripped a shot from the high slot that lifted the Mammoth to a 9-4 lead, prompting Anaheim coach Derek Keenan to replace starting goaltender Matt Roik with backup Matt King. Roik took the loss with 18 saves. King, who stopped 12 shots in relief, held the Mammoth scoreless for the rest of the half and into the third quarter while the Storm shaved the Mammoth lead down to 9-7. Langtry's fourth score of the night ended the drought with slightly more than 10 minutes remaining in the quarter. The Mammoth won the ensuing faceoff and Self got the ball on the wing before feeding a perfect pass into the slot to Stroup, who scored to put the Mammoth back up by four at 11-7. Carlson added a goal to make it 12-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Richard Morgan led the Storm with three goals and Ryan Powell collected a team-best four points on two goals and two assists.
