Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth's tenth-anniversary season begins this Saturday night at 7pm MST on "ËBrian Langtry Night' at Pepsi Center as the Mammoth faces off against the Minnesota Swarm. Led by team captain Gavin Prout and assistant captains John Grant Jr. (who led the team in all major offensive categories in 2011) and Jon Sullivan, the Mammoth is coming off an appearance in the West Division Semifinals a year ago.
"We're a hungry team, and one that wants to get off to a great start," said Mammoth Head Coach Bob Hamley. "It's been a long off-season, and we're eager to hit the floor on Saturday night."
Colorado won the Champion's Cup in 2006, and has made postseason appearances in eight of the team's nine seasons. The franchise, which has finished in the top-two in league attendance every year, has special events planned for home games throughout the season.
"As we celebrate "ËAn Age of Mammoth Lacrosse' with our fans, we have great expectations for our team on the field," said Mammoth President & General Manager Steve Govett.
Goaltender Chris Levis led all West Division netminders in goals-against-average (9.99) and save percentage (.784) a season ago, and returns with an upgraded defense. Colorado's roster includes five players drafted in the first two rounds of the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, including three offensive weapons: forwards Adam Jones, Jordan McBride and Jamie Lincoln.
Missing from the Mammoth's line-up this year is fan-favorite Brian Langtry, who announced his retirement in October. On Saturday night, his #6 jersey will be retired by the team and raised to rafters of Pepsi Center. The Long Island native and Hofstra University alumnus recorded 504 career points in his illustrious career, and quickly became engrained in Colorado's lacrosse culture shortly after the Mammoth relocated to Denver.
Single-game tickets to Opening Night and all other Mammoth regular-season home games are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
