Toronto Rock News Release
Toronto - Today the National Lacrosse League announced their first round of weekly award winners. Throughout the season, the NLL will announce the player of the week awards each Wednesday.
Toronto's Jesse Gamble was selected as the first Rookie of the Week for the 2012 season. Gamble, who was picked 17th overall by the Rock in the 2011 Entry Draft, picked up four loose balls in his pro debut.
Gamble is coming off an outstanding collegiate career at Cornell University, as well as a stellar run in the Ontario Junior A loop with the Orangeville Northmen. During his Junior A career, he captured a pair of Minto Cup Canadian Junior A Championships.
Led by Dane Dobbie, the Calgary Roughnecks nearly completed a sweep of the National Lacrosse League's player of the week honors for Week #1 of the regular season.
Dobbie wins the Offensive Player of the Week Award. A co-scoring leader with the Roughnecks last season, Dobbie finished with three goals, added three assists and collected three loose balls as the team rallied for a 12-9 victory on the road over the defending champion Toronto Rock on Sunday in the 2012 NLL opener.
Teammate Curtis Manning takes Defensive Player of the Week honors after scooping up six loose balls against the Rock.
The Transition Player of the Week goes to the Roughnecks' Geoff Snider as he collected a team-best 13 loose balls and won 2 of 5 face-offs versus Toronto. The NLL Weekly Awards are decided by a vote of the league's nine Head Coaches and General Managers.
