Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth announced today that fan-favorite defenseman Bruce Murray will miss the remainder of the 2009 season with a knee injury. The injury happened just a few seconds into the first quarter of last Saturday's game in San Jose. Initial tests in San Jose proved inaccurate when an MRI in Denver revealed more serious damage to the All-Star's knee. Murray will undergo surgery next Monday, by team Dr. Philip Stull, to repair the torn patellar tendon.

"I'm devastated," said Mammoth General Manager, Steve Govett. "To lose Bruce is an incredibly tough thing for all of us to get through right now. We wish him the absolute best through this surgery and rehabilitation process. We all hope for a speedy recovery."

Injuries have been far too common up and down the Colorado roster this season. Murray's knee is the fifth major injury that has cost Mammoth starters significant playing time this year. "We've lost some of our best offensive (Dan Carey), defensive (Murray), transition players (Jim Moss and Nenad Gajic), as well as our starting goaltender (Gee Nash) for either several weeks or the entire season," continued Govett. "It's a tribute to the job our coaches are doing just to have us in the position we're in right now."

Filling Murray's roster spot will be defenseman Chris Gill (#23). He will be re-activated following an earlier roster move this season. The 6'2" 225lb. Virginia native will join the team for this weekend's games.

The Mammoth travels to Calgary to face off against the West Division leading Roughnecks this Saturday, March 21st before returning to Pepsi Center on Sunday, March 22 for a battle with the Minnesota Swarm. The ball drops at 6pm for the March 22 match featuring Dollar Hot Dog Night and a Battle of the Badge (Police vs. Firemen) game at halftime.

Tickets for all Mammoth home games are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Ticketmaster retail centers, online at Ticketmaster.com and by phone at 303.830.TIXS or 719.520.9090.
