Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth dropped its final game of the regular season, 12-8, to the Minnesota Swarm in St. Paul on Saturday night. It a game with no relevance in the final regular-season standings for Colorado, while the win propelled Minnesota to the second seed in the West.

The Mammoth got on the board first 1:20 into the game as forward Jed Prossner scored on a left-handed shot from 12 yards out to beat Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson. Three-and-a-half minutes later, Colorado leading-scorer John Grant Jr., who assisted on Prossner's goal, scored one of his own on the power play on a shot over Patterson's left shoulder. Minnesota forward Sean Pollock responded with a power-play goal 6:19 into the game. Then, on the Swarm's next offensive possession, Ryan Benesch, the NLL's leading goal-scorer this season, tied the score at two on a bounce-shot from straight away.

A Joel Dalgarno power-play goal 2:34 into the second quarter was followed by Ilija Gajic's seventh of the season at the 5:29 mark to give the Mammoth its second two-goal lead of the game. A few minutes later, the home team's offense came alive. Consecutive goals from Kevin Ross, Jamie Shewchuk, Benesch and Callum Crawford in a span of just 2:17 late in the frame gave the Swarm a two-goal lead at the half, 6-4.

The third quarter was dominated by Minnesota, as the Swarm outscored the Mammoth, 6-0. Colorado starting goaltender Chris Levis was replaced by Matt King after allowing the first two of the period. All six goals were scored in 5-on-5 action, and included Shewchuk and Benesch completing their hat tricks.

Mammoth forward Brian Langtry scored 27 seconds into the fourth quarter, finally halting a 10-0 run by the Swarm. Langtry's first of the night ended a 24:58 scoreless drought for Colorado. Forward Jamie Floris scored nearly five minutes later as he was camped out in front of the crease. Dan Carey's power-play goal, followed by rookie Connor Martin's second of the season with 4:58 remaining, cut Minnesota's lead to just four. Neither team would score again. After being outscored 6-0 in the third, the Mammoth outscored the Swarm, 4-0, in the fourth.

Colorado will travel to Calgary next Saturday, April 30, to take on the Roughnecks at 6:30pm MDT in the West Division Semifinal. The game will be broadcast live online on the NLL Network.
