Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth has released the team roster for the 2009 season. Returning and headlining the 23-man roster will be veterans Gee Nash and team captain Gavin Prout.
Gee Nash has been a staple in the Colorado net since 2004. Gee backstopped the team to 7 of their 9 victories last season and has tallied 43 overall wins during his career with the Mammoth.
Gavin Prout returns to the Mammoth after a season that saw him tie for second in the league in points with 92 (25g/67a) - a career best for the veteran captain entering his 5th season with the Mammoth. The team's all-time leading scorer has amassed 483 points (161g, 322a) in 87 regular and post-season games.
"We are definitely looking for Gee and Gavin to lead us this year," confirmed Mammoth General Manager Steve Govett. "We have a nice mix of youth and experience on this team and it should pay dividends as the season progresses."
Newcomers to the 2009 roster include an impressive pair of former Duke Blue Devils. First round selection (7th overall) and NCAA Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, Matt Danowski figures to make an immediate impact on offense. Former Duke teammate and third round selection (31st overall), Mike Ward was a member of the defensive corps that led the ACC in goals against average in his senior year - adding 9 points (2g/7a) to go along with his stellar defensive play.
Defensemen John Gallant and Tom Ethington, along with forward Brian Langtry return in 2009 as the only three remaining players from the Mammoth's opening night roster in 2003. Gallant will serve as an assistant team captain in 2009 along with 3-time All-Star and winner of the 2008 NLL Sportsmanship Award, Dan Carey. Other returners for the Mammoth include Rich Catton, Nick Carlson and Jamie Shewchuk.
