Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - After falling behind 2-0, the Dubuque Fighting Saints scored seven straight goals, including a hat trick from Seamus Malone, to beat the Chicago Steel 7-2 in their final game at the Fall Classic East in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dubuque scored five times in the game's third period and outshot Chicago 46-26 in the convincing victory at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Coming into Saturday's game, the Steel had not scored a goal in their first two preseason games, being shutout by Indiana 1-0, and Team USA U-18 2-0. That trend changed quickly. Zach LaValle got the Steel on the board only :57 seconds into the opening period to give Chicago an early lead. Chicago's Danny Fetzer sent the puck to LaValle, and the forward cut from the slot to the right wing. LaValle wristed a shot that deflected off Jordan Kilmek's skate, and fooled Dubuque goaltender Arthur Brey to give the Steel its first goal of the preseason.

The Steel's early period success continued in the game's middle frame. Hayden Stewart entered the game in goal for Dubuque and was no match against a three-on-one for Chicago. Christopher Dodero scored: 32 seconds into the period, accepting a pass from Biagio Lerario and powering a shot past Stewart to make it 2-0 Steel.

After that point, the game belonged to Dubuque. The Fighting Saints were finally able to solve Chicago goaltender Cale Morris at the 11:05 mark. Off a faceoff win for Chicago, the puck hopped over defender Brian LeBlanc's stick to neutral ice. Seamus Malone won a race around him and skated in on a breakaway. Malone made a great move shifting the puck to his backhand while being hooked, and slid it through Morris' five-hole to make it 2-1 Chicago.

A night after scoring two goals, Alexx Privitera struck again Saturday for Dubuque. With the two teams skating four-on-four, Dubuque carried the puck over the Chicago line on a three-on-two. Andrew Gaus left the puck for Privitera and the defender sent it back to Gaus on the right wing. Gaus gave it back to Privitera for a slam-dunk tap in on the back door to tie the game 2-2 at 16:15.

Dubuque's dominance continued into the third period. Only :41 seconds into the frame, Malone notched his second goal of the game on a back-door tap in, courtesy of a beautiful pass by Jarrid Privitera. Just over three minutes later, Malone completed the hat trick. With Dubuque on the powerplay, Dylan Gambrell cycled the puck back to Malone on the blueline. He walked in and blasted a wristshot over Morris' glove to make it 4-2 Fighting Saints.

The scoring party continued two minutes later when Alexx Privitera notched his second goal of the game and fourth tally of the weekend. Gaus and Brett Boeing assisted, as Privitera whistled a wrist shot off the crossbar and in at 5:20 to make it 5-2 Fighting Saints.

The Fighting Saints would add two late goals, finally from someone other than Alexx Privitera or Seamus Malone, when Max McHugh roofed a shot over Morris' blocker at 15:23. After a pinch at the left point kept the puck in, McHugh worked it off the boards and snapped a shot that eluded Morris to make it 6-2. Dubuque added one last exclamation point when blueliner Ryan Chiasson added his first goal as a Saint in the game's final minute. Shane Eiserman set him up beautifully, and Chiasson deked around Morris before chipping in a shot from crease at 19:42.

Dubuque got a strong effort from netminder Stewart, who earned the win in goal. Stewart stopped 12 shots in the second period and four more in the third. Each of Dubuque's three goaltenders played two periods this weekend.

Dubuque went 1-for-6 on the powerplay while Chicago was 0-for-1. The Fighting Saints are now 3-1-0 in the preseason after winning both games at the Fall Classic East this weekend. So far in the preseason, the Fighting Saints have scored 21 goals in four games.
