QUACK TRACKS
Duck Dip
The Mallards are winless (0-2-2-0) in their last four games and have won one of their last eight (1-5-2-0). The Flock has picked up at least one point in three of its last five games (1-2-2-0).
Highs and Lows
The Mallards set a single period team season high by scoring five times in the first period of yesterday's 6-5 overtime loss to Flint. Quad City also matched a club one game season high by producing five goals in yesterday's contest. The Mallards had scored no more than two goals in any of their prior five games heading into yesterday.
Red Light District
Even after yesterday's offensive outburst the Mallards average fewer goals per game (2.5) than any other team. Quad City also gives up more goals per contest any other club (3.6)
Isn't That Special (Teams)?
The Mallards have gone 2-for-23 on the power play over their last three-plus games and have gone 4-for-38 in their last six outings. On the season Quad City ranks seventh in the IHL on the power play (13.9 percent). The Mallards also rank last on the penalty kill (76.8 percent).
Jumping In
Jerad Kaufmann started three straight games in goal in just over 48 hours for the Mallards over the weekend. Kaufmann has appeared in four of the Mallards' last five games after signing with the team earlier this month. Kaufmann matched a club single game season high by making 37 saves yesterday against Flint.
Triple Threat
Linemates Patrick Levesque (two goals, one assist), Mike Zbriger (one goal, two assists) and Chris Lipsett (three assists) produced three points apiece yesterday.
Rolling
Levesque (10-12-22) has produced 16 points in his last 13 games (eight goals, eight assists) and is now tied for eighth in the league in goals and tied for tenth in points.
Powering Up
Justin White (4-7-11) scored his fourth goal yesterday in Flint. All four of his goals have come on the power play.
Ins and Outs
Defensemen Jason Goulet (upper body injury) and Shaun Fisher (upper body injury) both missed the Mallards' games Saturday night and yesterday...Defenseman Matt Burke has been on injured reserve since suffering a broken ankle November 8 in Flint.
SCOUTING REPORT
Muskegon
The Lumberjacks won three straight games on the road last week to regain sole possession of first place in the IHL...The Lumberjacks won in Dayton last Wednesday and last Friday (in a shootout) and in Bloomington last Saturday...Muskegon is two points ahead of Port Huron in the race for the top spot...The Lumberjacks have gone 15-2-0-2 in their last 19 games after starting the season 3-3-0-1...Muskegon also has the league's best road record (6-2-0-3)...Muskegon's Robin Bouchard (21-22-44), Todd Robinson (12-28-40) and John DiPace (10-22-32) are the top three point producers in the IHL. Bouchard leads the league in goals and ranks second in assists. Robinson leads the IHL in assists and is tied for fourth in goals. DiPace is tied for third in assists... Now in his sixteenth pro season- the thirteenth during which he has spent at least some time with Muskegon- Bouchard has recorded a total of 1030 points in a Muskegon uniform...Sebastien Centomo (11-4-0-2, 2.19, .920) leads the IHL in wins, ranks second in goals against average and ranks fourth in save percentage... Muskegon scores more goals (3.5 per game) and gives up fewer (2.5) than any other team in the league...This is the first year of Rich Kromm's second stint as Muskegon coach. Kromm first piloted the Muskegon Fury from 1998-2001. That successful tenure was highlighted by the Fury's 1999 Colonial Cup title. As a player Kromm skated in 372 NHL games with the Calgary Flames and New York Islanders...The Mallards have gone 0-1-2-0 against the Lumberjacks.
Bloomington
The PrairieThunder has won four of its last five games and is now tied with Fort Wayne for third place...After defeating the Mallards last Wednesday the PrairieThunder saw its three game winning streak snapped by Muskegon last Friday. The Thunder rebounded to outgun Fort Wayne 6-5 one night later...Craig MacDonald (14-17-31) ranks second in the league in goals, fourth in points and sixth in assists. MacDonald has recorded ten points (five goals, five assists) in six games against the Mallards...Jon Booras (10-16-26) is tied for fifth in points. Bill Bagron (11-11-22) is tied for sixth in goals...Andrew Martin (7-4-1-2, 2.64, .909) has made five straight starts in goal, winning four of those five games...Bloomington boasts the league's best power play (22.0 percent)...the Prairie Thunder averages 3.3 goals per game- second most in the league...Bloomington also leads the league in penalty minutes (28.8 per game). Individually, Justin Sawyer (116) and Robin Gomez (114) rank second and third in penalty minutes...Jarrod Skalde is in his second season behind the Bloomington bench. The former centerman wrapped up a 17-year professional playing career that saw him skate in 115 National Hockey League games with the New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers and Philadelphia Flyers by suiting up for ten games with the PrairieThunder in 2007-08...The Mallards have gone 2-4-0-0 against Bloomington this season.
