IHL Awards Weekly Honors For Week Ten

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron defenseman Mike Gershon has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Dayton goaltender Ryan Mior has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 20th, 2009.

After being held scoreless the last two games, Bedard exploded this week, scoring five goals and dishing out one assist, going plus-four in three games played. He had one power play goal in the Icehawks 6-1 win over Flint Tuesday. Bedard also knocked in the game-winning goal in the 5-2 win over Dayton Sunday. The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native continues to light up the scoring column, leading all rookies in points (24), goals (12) and assists (12). Bedard is also second on the Icehawks roster in scoring, just two points behind Nick Lindberg, who leads the team with 26 points.

Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Jason Lepine, Dayton center Sam Bloom, Flint right wing John Ronan, Fort Wayne center Colin Chaulk, Muskegon center Brian Bicek and Quad City right wing Patrick Levesque.

Gershon finished Week Ten of his rookie season dishing out four assists in three games with a plus- four rating. It was the most productive week of the rookie defenseman's season so far. It was also the first week that he recorded points in three straight contests. Two of Gershon's assists came on the Icehawks power play, giving him his first points on the man advantage. The 25-year-old Sparta, New Jersey native currently has nine points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 22 games played with a plus-seven rating. His plus-seven ranks him third among IHL rookie defenseman and fifth overall in the rookie column.

Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington right wing Matt McIlvane, Dayton forward Mike Vaskivuo, Flint center Ben Boudreau, Fort Wayne defenseman Frankie DeAngelis, Muskegon goaltender Matt Lundin and Quad City goaltender Jerad Kaufmann.

Mior completed the week with a 1-0-0-1 record, playing 125 minutes in two games. He stopped 32 of 33 shots against the first place Lumberjacks Friday night, but still earned his team one point in the shootout loss. The following night, he made 30 saves against Flint, winning the game 5-1. Mior only allowed two goals against in the two games, giving him a 0.96 goals against average and a.969 save percentage. The 22-year-old St. John's, Newfoundland native currently has a 2.86 goals against average and a.905 save percentage in 17 games played so far this season.

Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Andrew Martin, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo, Port Huron's Larry Sterling and Quad City's Jerad Kaufmann.
