Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 16, 2011) - The Quad City Mallards of the Central Hockey League have signed defenseman Taylor Vichorek, the Mallards announced today.
The 6' 8", 250-pound Vichorek started the season with the ECHL's Trenton Titans, for whom he played three games. The 23 year old turned pro with Trenton last season, scoring four goals and totaling 15 points in 68 games as a rookie.
"Taylor is a quality addition to our back end," said Mallards coach and general manager David Bell. "He's a promising young defenseman who's going to bring plenty of size and a physical presence to our lineup,"
Vichorek jumped to the pro ranks after spending one season at Division III Hamline University. The Moose Lake, Minnesota, native scored six times and produced 23 points in 26 games with Hamline in 2009-10. Before heading to Hamline he played three seasons of junior hockey in the North American League for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Alexandria Blizzard.
The Mallards meet the Bloomington Blaze Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at the i wireless Center. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive free Mallards "quacker" noise makers. In addition, the Mallards have teamed with Operation Christmas Child to encourage fans to make gift donations at Friday night's game. Operation Christmas Child distributes small gifts to children in need throughout the world; suggested gift ideas include small toys, school supplies and hygiene items.
